I like to play a game where I randomly pick books without knowing anything, sometimes I don't even read the back. I put them on an online wheel that gets spun whenever I need something to read. This was one of those, and I don't like the feelings I got. It's very boring and there are so many couples that it's hard to keep track. This book just wasn't for me.

Another sticky topic by John Marrs - virtual children who age at whatever rate you want them to/can be "deleted" + reality TV. Oddly conceivable, still not as good as The One, and left me wanting for some reason (TBD whether that's because I listened to the last 30 pages instead of reading them - baby's first time with an audiobook!).

with the rise in AI lately this book speaks volumes at the dangers & ethics behind it. this is my favorite of marrs’ books ive read, oh my god, this was so good. each different family had such an interesting story with lots of depth and twists and everything connecting in the end was so good!!!!
im a bit sad issy died like that, even tho yeah she tried to kill the boy i think she still deserved better than what her parents put her thru. i wouldve liked to see her escape off into the world somewhere lol
marrs’ world building is always phenomenal, and i liked the advertisements between chapters to show even more the dystopian universe. this felt like a blend between the one and the passengers in terms of the flow/sets of characters & massmedia involvement which i rly enjoyed!

For me, this read more like a parody of reality TV than a convincing dystopia or thriller. It was a little too melodramatic to feel believable to me, and I felt it tried to cover too many intertwining stories in too short a time for any of it to feel real. I kept feeling that I would have enjoyed it so much more if I’d gotten a chance to really delve into and root for some of the characters, but there wasn’t space to flesh any of them out fully (or the author just didn’t, for whatever reason). The ending dragged on with double and triple plot twists, which felt like it should’ve been exciting but, because I wasn’t invested in any of the characters, felt more like a checklist of all the things the author needed to wrap up before the book could officially be considered done. I’m still confused about Issy? Like what actually happened? I couldn’t decide how to feel about her. I was constantly lost about which character was which. I also hate the one of the only truly despicable characters in this is gay. Idk, this one just wasn’t for me.
