This is a prime example of a book where I wish the characters got a plot they deserved. It is like a good actor being paired with a bad director. These characters were mostly interesting but the 3rd act threw it all away.
The general problems that fell this local women who went missing is that they were sick of their husbands mansplaining to them so they intentionally withheld important info to avoid being lectured at. I mean... accurate but some great mystery it isn't.
Spoilers:
The who in this whodunit came out of nowhere. Literally. This wasn't a twist or A shock- there was NOTHING that suggested it was them. It was literally one paragraph they are cool and the next they have the capacity to murder. Zero build up. Zero hints.
Also, the bait and switch with Delilah was terrible. Unnecessary and again, no foreshadowing. Just a "haha, gotcha " for the sake of a gotcha.
Finally-- having the lesbian be villian- in a book full of typical, skinny suburban housewives- left me with a bad taste. It set her up to be so edgy and cool, having her be the bad guy gave major "see, lesbians can't be cool" vibes.

I wasn’t prepared for how deeply upsetting and triggering and disturbing this book is which is mostly why I’m giving 3 stars. I don’t read very many thrillers or books like this so Ithink that’s just a me thing. It’s a lot, but I was compelled to finish it in two nights. Just definitely be prepared to feel completely unsettled and have a pit in your stomach for 6 hours lol. I need some comic relief now. The other things I didn’t enjoy were some of the repetitiveness (so much about how it’s raining all the time, we get it) and some of the twists just felt needless and unnecessarily complicating the plot.
