⭐⭐⭐ ½
Kimber returns home from a vacation only to discover that her keys do not work in her front door. She tries everything and just as she is about to call the cops she sees somebody inside. She is shocked to find that the man in her home has a signed lease which has her signature and has every right to be there. Who is this man and what does he want from her ?
The Stranger Inside by Laura Benedict is a psychological thriller with some twists and turns. The book is written in different timelines from present to past with unlikable characters but in this case it helps the story .Overall an enjoyable read
I would like to thank Mullholland Books & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

It was a good story. The characters weren’t likable but they were relatable. Jumped a little between timelines but was easy to follow.

My Thoughts: Can you imagine coming home from a weekend away to find a stranger with a seemingly valid rental agreement living in your house? And if that wasn’t bad enough, the man seems to also be threatening you with a long buried secret from your past. Kimber Hannon came home to just that and, after acting impulsively, she ended up being arrested. The Stranger Inside tells the story of Kimber’s struggle to uncover who this man is and more importantly why he wants her house. Kimber has a dark secret she’s long hidden and this stranger seems to know far more than Kimber is comfortable with.

The premise of The Stranger Inside is what initially drew me in, but Laura Benedict’s layering on of suspense is what kept me invested. From early on I was trying to piece together the mystery and come up with a solution. It was just twisty enough to keep me turning the pages, and the final solution while not probable, was also not outrageous. For me, the one flaw in this story was Kimber herself. At times I really liked her, but she’d done some pretty awful things. To be honest, those were the parts that didn’t add up for me. In the end the parts I liked about The Stranger Inside outweighed those I didn’t. I read this one, but think it would also work well on audio.

Character was very whiny! I feel there was a lot of unnecessary info

The story was good but I was distracted due to my impending court hearing.

Kimber made it hard for me as a reader to root for her. She was nasty in both timelines. I'm fine when a MC is unlikeable, but this didn't work for me.

I kept waiting for something crazy to happen, and I guess the hidden life her dad lead was a big reveal, but I wasn't super surprised by all the twists.

Mentions mental health and the toll it took on one character, but Kimber acts like she's blameless in the situation when she's stringing them back into her life. She's a selfish character.

Interesting premise, but Lance Wilson showing up to occupy the home, not to mention change the locks to Kimber's house, seemed hard to believe. No one seemed to question him, which was strange. It seemed like a lot of people weren't doing their job in this situation, which is an understatement, but just letting Lance live in Kimber's house despite it all seems strange.

I zoomed through the remaining 45 pages or so just to finish it, but it lost my interest, especially by here. I could put this down and not have the urge to pick it up.

Not a bad story, but this novel wasn't for me, unfortunately.

The unravel was slow and then fast. I had trouble feeling any empathy for a narrator who treated everyone in her life like garbage. It takes place in St. Louis, so all the references to the neighborhoods were fun.
