i am so deeply and utterly rabid about this book, in the best way possible. it was a pain to stop reading every third to not get ahead of my book club.

this book is one of my favorites ever. i mean, a deeply socialist story about a trans kid in appalachia— and also there’s ghosts? there was no way i wasn’t going to love this (especially having loved andrew joseph white’s “hell followed with us”), but man did i fucking love it. maybe i’ll have more to say once my thoughts are done cooking. but until then: i wish i could rate this over five stars, i loved it that much.

i can't tell how much of this one i lost in the audio format (to no fault of this audiobook and just due to my own flawed audio processing), but this book didn't particularly grab me. for a plot that theoretically should've had a lot of catharsis, i got none.

anyway: good dog.

Andrew has done it again. This was such a good book, I can't put into words the emotions this made me feel. Angry, hurt, and hopeful all at once. It reminds you that no matter where you are in this country, there will always be people in your corner, even if the world feels grim.
