I thought it was wonderful. If you enjoy a good dystopia, this is a brilliant one. It has shades of Station Eleven, which I also enjoyed, but I found this more convincing and much easier to visualise. The scene where a character walks up the disused A12 into Chelmsford is still in my mind's eye!

Pandemics, pollution and environmental changes have caused huge social upheaval and land is no longer profitable in the UK. Food is imported and cars are banned. People congregate in cities, where an increasingly authoritative state looks after them.

But some people choose a different path, and find a different value in the land.

With two alternating main characters and a Greek chorus of semi feral cattle, this beautiful, lyrical book gripped me right from the start and didn't disappoint right up to the end. I highly recommend it.

Such a well told story and beautifully written. So much character connection. It was moving, interesting and some parts were so exquisitely described.
I was intrigued to see how each persons story unfolded and how events were woven together.
