4/5 - Vampires > any other spooky monster. Like many others who comment on this book the beginning in the castle was my favorite. I liked the parts too where Van Helsing was trying to demonstrate to Seward in believing the impossible as possible. Lucy sleepwalking and then being turned into a vampire was also my favorite. Where they lost me was the prolonged chapters and the description of women basically being holy beings and unable to defend themselves when clearly Mina could. Also the ending could have been played better like Arthur dying instead and then finally being with Lucy in the after life. Overall a new (kinda) favorite classic!!

tedious!!!! i read this back in 2021/22 with dracula daily and i found it a total chore, if not for the newsletter i probably would've DNF'd. i see its influence on the genre and whatever and i am furthered in my conviction that vampire shit just isn't for me
