I loved this book. Powerful and filled with emotional scenes that did their job and had me reaching for the tissue box more than once. Relatable characters and a tragic past, trying to make it through to tomorrow - just my kind of read! I'm not a huge fan of walloping the reader with a faith message, and I have to admit a couple of scenes toward the end of the story seemed a bit heavy-handed for me, (I am a Christian so I didn't care) and I wondered what a person who did not share the author's faith would think. I loved Miss Ella, Mutt, the Judge, would have liked a little more development of Katie. I couldn't quite figure her out. Even felt a little sorry for Tucker's deadbeat dad at the end.
This was my first Charles Martin novel, but it won't be my last!

Deep and introspective. I loved how the slowness of the story allowed you to digest the depth. Such themes of acceptance and forgiveness and the contrast of unconditional love and what the opposite of it does to children who grow up to be adults.
No words. BEYOND AMAZING AND THE AUDIO WAS BRILLIANT. DON'T MISS THIS ONE. This was the third time I have listened to it in three or four years.
Note. I’ve listened to this book three times. It is ALWAYS AMAZING. ALWAYS. THE LESSONS ARE ALWAYS EXCELLENT.

Beautiful prose, interesting story and compelling characters. I enjoyed my time with this book and will likely think of it from time to time in the future.
What a good find from the thrift store I found this book. Such heartache and sadness, but so thought-provoking and very endearing and wonderful too. I enjoyed every minute of this one as the writing was wonderful and never boring.
I so much anticipated a different ending, but I am pleased with the outcome. The characters - Tuck, Mutt, Katie, and Jase, and above all Miss Ella - what love and understanding conquers through good times and bad (really bad.) It has made me think of everything in my life and I'm so thankful for the ways "Miss Ella" has shown me. The quotes of her and Mother Teresa are just amazing, and yet so simple. Thank you Mr. Martin for reminding me of what's really important. I'm looking forward to reading more of your work.
