Loved the first third about Aladdin, Hephaestus and Kyma the most. The middle dragged a little and had too many similar elements from the main book series in it for me to be entertaining, but the ending was great again and it even had a nice little twist about the swans in there. And no Arthurian legend reference in sight, which is such a relief! The only really weird thing was that the School Masters did not care about the kidnapped children at the end? Why not try to rescue them? Poor Aladdin, Heph, Kyma and the others. I hope they will get a comeback in the sequel. They can't have been such important characters in here for no good reason...right?! .
We learn a lot about the School Masters Rafal and Rhian and read from a lot of different perspectives, including Rafal, Rhian, Aladdin and James Hook. The prequel really shows how the school we all know from the other books actually came into being, as well as how the readers get entangled in the world. And the Sader family is heavily involved in the plot, too! All in all, worth the read!

I got through the first 2 parts in the book in no time but I noticed I got kinda stuck in the story at the half way point which made it take much longer for me to read. I did, however, really like the story and the ending especially.
