I discovered Ann Cleeves and the Shetland series by watching the ITV television show based on them. I picked White Nights to read because it hadn't yet been adapted for the small screen. All I can say is that it was excellent. Her writing style is concise and flowing, and the story line interesting and unpredictable.

If you're looking for a deep psychological thriller, then this isn't the book for you. But if you like the interplay between characters and the effect the landscape has on them ,then you might just like this

I love Ann Cleeves' writing. She really does well with the characters and sense of place. I'd like to watch the series now but will wait so I don't have any spoilers. :)
