Unsure if dislike translation or writing style, falls flat. Not a fan of how the character was developed

A unique little story.

I really enjoyed the plot, I thought it was quite a unique concept and I enjoyed the way it unfolded. I also liked the double explanation for the ending, the ambiguity. The characters were three dimensional and I liked them a lot, but I wish we'd had more opportunity to develop a bond with the characters. It was a very short book, which left me wanting more from the character interactions. For example, we're told one of the characters visits the other often, but we only get one or two of those visits described in bits and pieces. Besides, the writing wasn't that great, and especially the scenery descriptions didn't always flow nicely.

Overall, the plot was great but the execution was a bit lacking at times. 3.5/5

“Books took me to places I could never go otherwise. They shared the confessions of people I'd never met and lives I'd never witnessed. The emotions I could never feel, and the events I hadn't experienced could all be found in those volumes.”

Although accessible and easy to read, Almond by Sohn Won-Pyung is no simple read. It tackles a complex array of profound topics through the eyes of a young boy who has been diagnosed with alexithymia (the inability to feel, express or recognize emotion). While this young boy has been trying to understand what emotion is in his everyday life, through the absence of his own emotions, we the reader live through some of the most intense human emotions such as grief, loss, regret, insecurity, and more.

An absolute must-read arguable suitable for younger audiences. However, I strongly recommend reviewing any trigger warnings beforehand.
