This second instalment of the Hunger Games trilogy continues the series explosive and visceral storytelling with a new harrowing chapter. Katniss and Peeta have survived the horrors of the Hunger Games, but now they have unwittingly ignited the spark of revolution. This volume continues the series' commentary on the decadent Capital and its excesses, in contrast to the desperation and unrest of the Districts. Similarly, the depth of critique of state surveillance is great, surprising readers in 2009 but less novel to contemporary readers, revealing much about our current society. The twists and turns of this book build toward its terrifying conclusion and a new paradigm that might change the course of a nation. Amazing book that I could not put down!

This is a great addition to the Hunger Games trilogy.

1. Post-victory life. It was really interesting to see what life is like for victors. If this whole book was about Katniss and Peta becoming mentors I think I would have enjoyed it just as much.

2. Dynamic world building. The way Collins describes the new arena is so compelling. The reader gets to solve the puzzle along with the characters; it is extremely rewarding (especially towards the end).

There were some negatives points in this book, most glaring being the fake pregnancy. I suppose it makes sense for the characters, it's just not something I enjoyed.

Overall, another great book!

The Hunger Games’s sequels capture attention and contribute to the story just as well as the first book. Catching Fire is a great remarkable book, and my favorite of the series.
