Bad Writing

A TON of passive voice and the characters were severely overdone. My head hurt reading this book. Good thing I got it for free, I would have regretted buying it.

Charlotte Rowe is in hiding from the world because of a secret she keeps. She spent the first seven years of her life being raised by a pair of serial killers. When she is finally rescued it's out of the frying pan and into the fire when her father instead of helping her cope thrusts her into the spotlight and exploits her past for money and fame. But at last she is free to be herself. Only it's a lonely and fearful life looking over her shoulder all the time. When she confides in a therapist looking for understanding she gets betrayal. Her therapist has a few secrets of his own and they put Charlotte into danger. Fed up with being a pawn Charlotte will show what she can do and make a stand for herself and her life.

So very unrealistic. But enjoyable, perhaps for that very reason.

Took me forever to get interested in this story but about 33% in, I was drawn in and the suspense kept me going.

Bone Music was a pretty interesting audio book. I feel like I zoomed through half of the book yesterday and then the rest of it today. Well, that's because I did. I actually started the audio kind of late then I went to sleep (yes I sleep people) and started it as soon as I got to work. It definitely made work more tolerable.

Charlotte, also known as Charlie, was so freaking lovable. I instantly liked her character and thought she was a super bad ass. She also had super strength and shit when she felt that she was in danger. Of course this didn't just start the day she was born. No, it all started after she was given some mysterious pill.

The twists and turns were so good. I honestly didn't know who to trust besides Luke. I absolutely loved Luke. Bailey was helpful too but Luke was my man. Speaking of him... well, I shipped the heck out of these two. I'm kind of mad that the entire time I was shipping these two that I only got a little teasing sentence about how they shared a kiss.. at the end of the book. Such a tease!

Overall, this book was interesting. I'm glad I got the audio instead of the physical or kindle book because I think I probably would've gotten bored during some of slower pacing parts. I have no idea what the next book will have in it but I can't wait to dive into it.

Holy Crap!

So this book was not at all what I was expecting! But in such a good way. The novel started out exactly as the synopsis states, but then you are taking into a completely different direction. This is nothing like Rice's other novel I've read - A Density of Souls and I love that.

This one is definitely an action packed thriller that touches on serial killers, vigilante justice, medical conspiracy, and also has quite a sci-fi feel to it. The result is a thriller that lees you on the edge of your seat throughout the fast paced story.

Rice easily sets up a stellar series that I am excited to read and follow. I also got the strong vibe that this would make an excellent cable/Netflix series which made it all the more fun to picture and read. The main characters are flawed but likeable and the the plot has just the right amount of guessable action and surprise to keep you intrigued. I am officially a Christopher Rice fan and am now eagerly awaiting the release of Blood Echo!

***4 Stars***

Bone Music is a great read with a heroine who's trying to outrun her tragic past, rebuild her life, and learn who she can actually trust.

Charlotte Rowe was kidnapped as a child, her mother was murdered and she was raised by serial killers (this sentence alone had me hooked and convinced me to give this book a try). When she was 8, she was rescued and returned to her father, only to be exploited by him when he turns her troubled life into a book and later on into a movie franchise.

Years later she manages to get her life back in order, or so she thinks. After she takes a pill that her therapist prescribed, she realizes it gives her superhuman powers which she later uses to fight some scumbags and a serial killer. With so many twists and turns, I was glued to each word wondering how Charlotte would manage in the end.

If you're looking for a fast-paced thriller, this is definitely a book for you.
