I really liked the story, overall particularly the parts with the history behind Starling House and how things came to be.

However I hated Opal and her whole personality. I wanted at times  to DNF because of my dislike for her, but I really wanted to see how the story ended.

Excellent narration added to this creepy horror novel.  Perfect for October.

I loved the House- it's my favorite character. The Alice in Wonderland elements were amazing. I've heard others say the ending was rushed and while it was fast I think it was thorough. This is a book where everything gets wrapped up in a perfect bow at the end so it won't leave you with much mystery.

I absolutely loved 10.000 doors and once and future witches.
This book however was not it for me. The book has some really interesting ideas and notions that could’ve been explored. I kept waiting for more world building, but it kept being delayed and so I got really frustrated not understanding what the things look like what the beast were like. What was the danger?
Both the protagonists were pretty underwhelming, although I would’ve liked to hear more from Arthur’s perspective. I’m sad I didn’t like this spoken it in resonate with me. I hope it does for you.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced review copy of this book.

I cannot adequately put into words how much I loved this book. It's filled with complicated and detailed characters whose actions sometimes really make it hard to root for them, but you can't help loving (many) of them anyway.

It would be so easy to lean too far into the cheesy aspects of a House that's somehow alive and monsters made of mist, but Harrow's talent instead creates an intricate world that's the perfect amount of gothic with a sprinkling of light horror and fantasy. I find myself thinking about it in the days since I finished. I want to get lost in the House and fall asleep on the lawn listening to the starlings sing.

I also listened to the audio version and Natalie Naudus really does an amazing job. Her pacing and acting is so perfect that you really feel as if you're in Eden. I wouls listen to anything she narrates!

Fyi: the cat does not die.
