I had stumbled across this in Foyles and thought it sounded incredible. I love LGBT books, but I just didn't like the protagonist at all. Some of the expressions were cringey and overused. It was hard to follow at times. I had to start it over at one point as none of it was going in. I had really wanted to enjoy it as the concept sounded incredible, sadly it lacked in execution.

I honestly could not stand this book and the only reason I finished it was because of an A through Z reading challenge. The premise of the book is great and I love the message but I absolutely couldn't stand the way it was written and I didn't like the characters either. But to each their own.

the voice of the narrator felt really weird/off? i keep thinking that it seemed too modern for a book set in the '70s but idk. it's just not working for me!
