I am not the intended demographic for this book. And yet. Growing up touched many different ways by LGBTQ2+ issues, I am so glad that adolescents now have an outlet to read this type of story. There are protagonists and antagonists. The characters are caricatures of responses one might expect when discovering your identity. But the idea of a story of someone openly working through their/society's demons to find self acceptance is a powerful message for anyone. In any demographic.

It reads like someone who has read about bullying the gay kid but doesn’t know anything about it. The bullies themselves are ridiculous. Why is the richest kid in town shaking down the gay nerd for a dollar? Why are they chasing him?
Then there’s the nerdiness itself. He imagines hurling lightning bolts from his hands, something he learned from Star Trek. Wrong franchise. Again, he’s dead about things geeks might like but can’t be bothered with details.

Such a beautiful love story but more importantly, a story of self-discovery and self-love! I am in love with this book, I loved watching Jonathan grow throughout and I felt so much right to the end page - thank you!
