Cop Town

Karin Slaughter

3.78 AVERAGE

The more books I read by Karin Slaughter the more I love her ability to tell stories, and keep you wondering who the villain might be. I read a lot of mystery/thriller books and she, by far, has done the best job at surprising me every time.

This book is set in 1970's Atlanta, were segregation is rampant between cops, and the citizens they serve. When a cop killer strikes again and takes one of their golden boys down, the women of ATL police force do what they can to help put a murder off the street. This is a great "girl power" read that reminds you of the struggles women faced, and still face today.

"Blacks kill blacks, whites kill whites... blacks arrest blacks and whites arrest whites... and women shouldn't be allowed on the force."

karin slaughter is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors.

cop town was a fantastic read, it presented the rampant increase of racism & sexism in the police force.
kate & maggie are two cops tasked with the challenge of attempting to discover the serial cop killer in the area.

a truly captivating read.

Slow start for me but ended up being a good book. Not one of my favourites by Karin Slaughter but worth a read

I usually love Karin Slaughter's books but I struggled to read this one. The story dragged and I didn't care about any of the characters. If this were the fitst book of hers I read, I doubt I'd read another one.

A copy of this book was given to me by NetGalley. I had read a couple of Karin Slaughter's previous books, which are good, typical police procedurals. This novel breaks new ground. With strong female protagonists and a good feel for the time and place, Cop Town is an excellent read, both as a thriller and as police procedural.

Atlanta was a city of change and Slaughter captures the feeling and the language of the times. Men coming back from Vietnam, women just beginning to break into the workplace, racism, sexism and bigotry abound in the country. Change has everyone on edge- both in excitement and fear. She tells the story of the new female police officer, the old boy network, and the emerging city of Atlanta in the 70s. She also writes a page turning thriller.

Wow what a page turner, just loved this book. Karin's Will Trent character and series are amongst my favourite and I wasn't even sure if I wanted to read this stand alone novel. Was I wrong - this has to be one of her best. Karin Slaughter just gets better and better.

A good enough mystery, but it was hard getting past all of the racism, sexism, anti-semitism, and homophobia. I don't think it was gratuitous, but rather a reflection of the south in the 1970s. Still, tough to read.

Quickly becoming one of top 5 go-to authors. I am plowing through her works after finishing the Will Trent series (twice!). I always look forward to the next one - never disappoints.
