Another super-gritty one from Karin Slaughter. Was this really how women were treated by so many men in the 70s in some circles?
This was a gripping insight into Chicago police department and 2 women police officers during the Vietnam War Era. Very interesting story and I was guessing until the very end.
I did t really get into Thai book until the halfway point. But it ended well
This one was really hard for me to rate. I didn't like most of the characters - some I just hated, some pissed me off, and some just frustrated me beyond belief. The book was filled with misogyny, gay-bashing, anti-minority, just hatred of all kinds. Then again, 1974 Atlanta police, maybe it was accurate. Because of that, I could only handle some of this book a day instead of consuming it all at once (which I tend to do). So, it took me a week to finish the audiobook.
If I looked beyond all of that, the writing was solid, the story telling was strong and the overall it was a satisfying listen. But, there is A LOT of stuff to look past to get there. YMMV

it's clear that a lot of research went into the book but I just didn't care. I know also that the sexism and all the other isms are part of the world and it's supposed to be an unflinching look at the time period but it just sort of made me sad to keep reading about it.
First ever Karin Slaughter novel. I liked this one enough that I would probably try another.
This story set in Atlanta in 1974 focuses on two women cops in the midst of the hunt for a serial cop killer. There were a few side stories that I could have done without and some of the writing was “noir” like and didn’t fit.

i got this book from netgalley on my kindle, and i also received an advanced readers proof from the group Dead Good Crime Book Group here on goodreads.....thanks a ton to both groups!!
now for the book, what a great read! i have always enjoyed Karin's books because she really makes you feel what she is writing. its been awhile since i have hated a character as much i hated Terry! man i couldnt stand that sexist pig....then the girls, Maggie, Kate and Gail, really enjoyed them and especially good was the interactions between them. was so glad to see maggie get some satisfaction in the end. A great story about racism and sexism in the workplace in the 1970's and im so glad Karin decided to write it this way. Really liked this one and highly recommend this one. Now hoping Karin brings Kate and Maggie back! would love to find out what happens next.

Probably 3.5. Women in Atlanta police in the 1970. It’s always tough to breakthrough. The misogyny was painful to read. The mystery worked itself out in the end. It’s no Darktown, but has its merits.
