A must read for any teacher- future/ current!

This book is AMAZING, but should not be read in isolation. Miller is a genius-child-whisperer-book-dealer, AND her classroom system ROCKS (and she knows it, which she makes VERY clear as she subtly puts down other teachers at her school…a little tasteless but ok, you’re a baddie). I would read this alongside Book Love by Penny Kittle, or Write Beside Them. These books give just enough structure to Miller’s conceptual classroom reading wonderland. I think every teacher should read this book!

Super helpful for me in reorganizing my classroom library, and my student’s individual reading practice. Excited to implement the changes and start the new year!

I found this to be more motivating than anything. I was given permission to utilize independent reading more often in my classroom.

A must read for every elementary, English, and reading teacher!

There were definitely some amazing parts that I can take into action in my classroom immediately. My only setback was that it felt like the author was bragging a lot and seemed to put down other teachers.

I enjoyed this book. It's being used as a textbook for one of my upcoming education classes. My one issue with the book... She wasn't the first to really come up with this idea. Many times in my grade school career, we had the option to choose books.... Love the idea,
But it might not always be the most practical.

April 5, 2013: Loved this book. She encapsulated what I believe about reading. Now I have the tools to make it work in my classroom. I am very excited to share these new ideas with my students!

May 26, 2018: Great re-read. There are so many things I could do better.

September, 2021: Reread because it is full of great reminders for the beginning of a school year.
