Ummmm 3.5 I'd say. liked it. I'd read the next book. The ending was a surprise to me. Buuuuuut there were parts where I was ready for it to be over.

The concept is really cool and I liked some parts, but overall I thought it was just ok. I felt like it was messy and sometimes it was really all over the place. Also I struggled with her relationships with men in general, just doesn’t seem right.
I’ll probably read the sequels because I’m a sucker for punishment.

3.75/5 Stars.

I went into this book not expecting much, I had recently gotten Audible and decided to pick out something that has been on my TBR for a really long time.

This book was really entertaining and considering that it's supposed to be a murder mystery/paranormal novel, it had made me laugh out loud more times than I thought I would. The main character Mattie is sassy, sarcastic and has a straight up attitude and could bring anyone to their knees. She is strong headed and guarded, like any teenager in and out of foster homes, and can only trust one person, officer Dan. Oh, and she can see dead people.
When she sees the ghost of her foster sister at a party, hands bound, mouth taped shut and a bullet hole in her head, she stops at nothing to bring her killer to justice, even if it means getting help from the ghosts she's been trying to ignore her whole life.

Like any paranormal novel, there are some elements wrong with it. But I've always been a sucker for them, add in a murder mystery and I'm on board.
There are some scenes that didn't make sense and felt like they were all over the place, and then there were some things that just didn't add up. Let's not forget the fact that she chose to trust a complete stranger as soon as she saw him, especially since her trust in law enforcement was close to non-existent.

The narrator of the novel was very entertaining. Because of her, I am excited to continue with the series and see where it goes from where it left off.

I would’ve loved this when I was a teenager, but as an adult my suspense of disbelief can only go so far.

I have to admit I was not expecting a lot at all from this book, when I first started though I enjoyed it I found it was very my a YA, and yes I do enjoy YA books but I felt this was going to be too focused for younger readers hence the 4 stars not 5. However, the more I got into it the more I was hooked, I could not put it down, there are so many twists and turns you don’t see coming. There were a few bits I felt were unanswered in the book but I’m hoping they get highlighted a bit in book 2. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a simple easy read that you won’t want to put down

There are scenes of child kidnapping and abuse towards the end so be careful of that if that's a trigger warning or something you don't want to read about.

I did have to mark this as spoiler for that reason but I don't want to say anything about this book as it's more about diving into it yourself. I really enjoyed this. It was creepy and gory and scary but easy to read. The story was so interesting and the ending...WHAT ON EARTH WHAT DOES THIS MEEEEAN.

I do want to continue on with this series just don't know when

Look up any of the other 1 and 2 star reviews and you will have a list of all my complaints. I should have listened to them but I didn't. of course I didn't.

Maybe I've been reading too much NA lately so I expected too much from the characters but good grief they read like a bunch of junior highers. Mattie is supposed to be 16, I know of some immature 16 year olds so ok, I can believe her character flaws. But Officer Dan is supposed to be 20 and while he is a rookie cop I would still expect him to act more mature than a 15 year old. I can't get onto a book if the characters are not believable, it just isn't going to happen.
