I feel bad giving this 2⭐️ but I genuinely disliked both main characters and their problems..
The 5 year age gap was brought up A LOT by her that I’m not sure why she even continued seeing him. Their whole relationship was just bizarre.

Natalie's divorce is finalized and she wants to concentrate on her children and career. She's not remotely interested in Eugene. At least that's what she tells herself. The story was a medium placed tale with minimal conflict that focuses on the internal struggle with what she wants and what she thinks Eugene needs. I've never been crazy about the idea of the conflict being something solved with a simple conversation, so this didn't just didn't hold my interest the way I wanted it to. It could be because plots that thin really don't need 300+ pages but again, that could just be me.
What I did love were little things. For example, revisiting Hazel (Nat's sister) and her doggy children. Those scenes always made me smile. Also it was cute that Nat was an interior designer and Eugene a game designer. Designs on you- I see what you did there Jaci. I also appreciated that Natalie didn't allow her issues with her ex, to creep into her interactions with him when it came to her kids.

This was fine. In my opinion the author spent too much time describing the food the characters were constantly eating. There felt like there was very little tension throughout the book until the very unnecessary third act breakup that was resolved within 1.5 chapters.

📌Thanks for the free book PRH International, this is my honest opinion/review of it.
I have mixed feelings about this book because I liked it although not how I thought I was going to like it. I am a fan of a series by this author and I was excited to read this book to see another type of story from her and yes, the characters were good Natalie was a completely relatable character, her thoughts too but at the same time, I felt like she put a lot of but to everyone and a lot more with what her ex husband would think and well, I think that made me not 100% enjoy this book. Regarding the romance, it was okay, I liked the MMC falling in love with the kids first and then with her because it looked real, although the “age difference” issue between the two of them was very repetitive (more on her part than his). Other than all that, it was a quick read, a bit dramatic but still good to spend the day reading it.

This is a standalone book by Jaci Burton, however, the characters from her book released last year, Housebroke, do make an appearance and have ties to this book.
This was a cute, not too deep, contemporary romance. The romance between Natalie and Eugene was heartwarming. I loved how Eugene understood that Natalies kids would come first to her when she was dating. It was refreshing to read and see that there were not hurt feelings on his part because of this, and he supported this. I really enjoyed Natalie as a character. She was a strong woman who sacrificed a lot for her family, and now that she is divorced, she is putting her degree to work, and providing for her children. Eugene was a fantastic character as well. He listened, and genuinely tried to connect with Natalie and her children. The relationship between Natalie and Eugene was wonderful. I love how they kept things slow and then added on to the relationship piece by piece as they became infatuated with each other.
