This went from 'amazing, can't wait to see where this goes' to 'that's it?' very, very quickly. I really enjoyed both girls' stories, but then they met eachother... Still an interesting read though.

Young girls make excellent psychopaths for stories. Really just young people/children altogether. It is deeply unsettling to me and leaves me with a particular sense of fright each time I read one. And there are so many. If you enjoy stories like The Lord of the Flies or The Laws of the Skies (my personal, nightmare inducing, favorite) you might like this one. It is much much quieter though. Honestly a good chunk of the book probably could have been trimmed up to make this one better but it was still incredibly messed up.

Little Star is, at the end of the day, a novel that is both bloated and truncated - its narrative doesn't really come into focus until the third act, where the story finally starts to take shape and build a compelling case for itself as a genuinely unnerving entry in the horror genre.
However, what comes before is a cavalcade of unlikable characters with shadily-defined arcs that converge and culminate in a horrific act of third-act violence that the novel does little to earn and even less to justify. What could have been a solid entry in the vein of Carrie or Akira nstead becomes a meandering maze of useless plot threads and disingenuous story beats. The novel eventually gets where it’s always been going, but the march toward the destination feels artificial and pained.

Vanaf het eerste hoofdstuk een boeiend boek.
Een man gaat naar het bos om paddenstoelen te zoeken en vindt vervolgens een baby die in een zak begraven is in het bos. Het kind huilt niet, maar zingt een zuivere toon. Een bijzonder kind dus.
Lennart besluit het kind mee naar huis te nemen en op te voeden. Alleen mag niemand hiervan weten, dus groeit het kind op in de kelder bij Lennart en zijn vrouw.
Het kind blijkt niet helemaal normaal te zijn, zoekt geen oogcontact en wil, zelfs als ze groot is, alleen maar potjes babyvoeding eten.
De zoon van het gezin, Jerry, komt erachter dat er een kind in de kelder van zijn ouders zit en gaat tijd met haar doorbrengen. Hij geeft het meisje ook een naam: Theres.
Het boek groeit uit van spannend naar gruwelijk en ziek.
Als Theres groter is gaat ze onder een andere naam meedoen met Idols. Ze komt erg ver, maar in de finaleronde gaat ze eruit doordat ze zo wereldvreemd lijkt.
Via internet zoekt Theres op fora contact met andere meisjes, onder andere met Theresa, waarmee ze op een lijn lijkt te zitten en die Theres als een soort voorbeeld beschouwen.
Ze vormen samen een wolvenroedel dat tot erg zieke dingen in staat is.

Dette er basically en splatter-film i bokform. Lindqvist skriver godt og drar deg gjennom boken gjennom flere uforutsigbare vendinger. Dette kunne gjerne vært en 5-stjerner, men detaljene er nesten for uhyggelige og boken er ikke noe for enhver. Det mangler dessuten noe i avslutningen for min del, man sitter igjen med følelsen av noe uforklart. Det virker til å ha vært meningen fra Lindqvists side.

An imaginative and engaging horror story that focuses on the hell of human relationships—brutal, lonely adolescent girldom in particular—rather than strictly supernatural elements. Perhaps because the characters are so complex, repellent and familiar all at once, I found myself frequently (feverishly) whispering, “gah, no, turn back,” throughout this doozy of a thrill ride.
