Nechte se také přivítat do Lovecraftu!

Vrah v komiksech vůbec není špatná věc. V kombinací s Hillovým smyslem pro detaily, nebezpečná tajemství a magické předměty, jop.. really liked it! Vážně mě to moc bavilo, abyste věděli.

A ty kresby v sobě skrývají atmosféru, co zvláštním tajemným způsobem přesně vystihuje příběh.
Doporučuji!

I'm not sure why I've never marked this as read on goodreads but it definitely is my second time reading it. I believe I read it before everyone was aware that Joe Hill is Stephen King's son. I absolutely fell in love with this series a few years ago and with the show coming out on Netflix I couldn't wait to re-read all 6 volumes. This first volume is such a great introduction to the characters and the Locke house. While there aren't many explanations for whats happening in the house and among the characters, I think it's a great introduction to what's to come in future volumes. The artwork is phenomenal and Joe Hill definitely knows how to write a horror story.

The art style wasn't for me, but the main baddie was pretty fun (and scary).

WOW...JUST WOW!! I devoured this in an hour and I'm craving more. I don't read graphic novels and I think the only reason I picked it up was because I read NPS4A2 and loved it. I just ordered the second in the series and can't wait to inhale it!

In anticipation of the new Netflix series, I decided to reread Locke and Key. I like it a lot. The art is good, the characters are likable, and it sets up the larger mystery of the keys. This one felt like it had too few keys, but that's partially because I know how many more will be around later.
I think at its heart this has always been a series about trauma, and that is a strong theme explored with sympathy. It's a good book.

Update (January, 2024): I don't know how many times I've read this now, but I always expect the sheen to be gone. It's not. This is a masterclass in how to pace and build a comic while setting up the world and story. Going back it feels remarkable how many threads start here. As Dodge tells Bode, "Kids always think they're coming into a story at the beginning. They're usually coming in at the end." Hill does a great job of capturing that feeling that we seeing a story resulting not just from Rendell's mistakes but the actions of many people going back centuries. This is still Hill's best work.

I wanted to like this because it's written by Joe Hill, but I found myself a little bored, honestly. I'm not sure if I want to read the next one or not. Maybe I'll borrow it and see how it goes.
