Our main characters are Jimmy Thesinger, Eileen "Bundle" Brent, Bill Eversleigh and Loraine Wade. All of these are young and rich.
The story begins at Chimneys, a manor house belonging to Bundles family, which they had rented out. Jimmy and Bill are staying there with friends when one of their friends, George Wade, is murdered. Bundle hears about this on returning to the manor. She then witnesses the death of Ronny Devereux by shooting, who was also a guest at Chimneys. His dying words included "Seven Dials" and "Jimmy Thesiger". Through Superintendant Battle and Bill Bundle finds the secret meeting room of the Sven Dials society and witnesses a meeting from inside a cupboard. She concludes that something will be happening at a political party where she gets herself invited. She tells Jimmy everything. Loraine is Georges sister, and is therefore involved, but told to keep out of harms way. At the party, there is an attempt to steal some important patents. Loraine, who had sneaked into the grounds, rescues them.
The story continues with further machinations, drama and love story elements. There is also an Hungarian Countess thrown in for good measure. In the end, it is revealed that Jimmy Thesiger was the villian all along, Elaine Wade was his accomplice and the Seven Dials were good citizens looking for adventure and serving their country in the process.
This one was a bit all over the place. Far too many characters and events, the plot became convoluted.

I have always liked this one. Bundle makes for an engaging protagonist and even characters like Lady Coote make me smile.
This is firmly of the early Christie "bright young things have adventures" subgenre and it's an entertaining read.
