I prefer the Marple and Poirot mysteries. Still, an interesting and enjoyable read.

Maybe the most fun Christie book I’ve read. The mystery isn’t her best, but the characters are lively and memorable. At times she writes her young characters exactly as they might appear in a modern high school movie. I never expected a nearly 100 year old novel to feel so comically relatable, and Bundle’s relationship with her dad (as an example) is 100% true to life.

Another win for one of my favourite authors!
Yet again, brilliant writing, plot, characters, atmosphere...just everything. The characters in this one are particularly endearing, particularly Bundle and her father (two rather adorable toffs.) This is another story partly set at Chimneys, so we meet some of the old characters again.
The ending felt more abrupt than usual, but still very good. I only guessed part of it and for the rest was left flabbergasted. I must admit I was actually quite sad about the culprit and felt thoroughly betrayed...I liked them.
Cosy as ever! Would recommend.

The first few chapters are so good. Christine took her time with the dialogue here, although it's never really explained why the middle-aged couple are hosting so many young people. Then there's a bunch of zany shenanigans, including unexpected marriage proposals. In the end, you will be surprised.
As much as I love Poirot and Marple, it is refreshing to read stories without them. Somehow I feel Christie is "freer" in these. [b:The Secret of Chimneys|16361|The Secret of Chimneys (Superintendent Battle, #1)|Agatha Christie|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1295680018l/16361._SY75_.jpg|1223872] is one of my favourites and it was with pleasure that I followed Bundle's adventures once more. She is a brilliant character, and her conversations with her father, Lord Caterham, are hilarious! Actually, most of the dialogues are highly entertaining. A lot of "I say!" and such. There is a very Wodehouse-esque feel to many of the scenes. Even with these, Christie still succeeds in delivering an entertaining mystery/thriller :O)

While I did enjoy the story, I have to admit that the reveal left me wanting. The explanation felt grasping, and I really didn't see it coming. There's a Youtuber who's been reading Agatha Christie books and seeing if he can solve them (How to Train Your Gavin) - and on one of them he said that Christie seems to have this pattern for the criminals... And honestly, it upsets me that I think he's right. I was really hoping that a certain character was the bad person, only for it to have been tossed aside by a simple question. It was really unfortunate... I'd like to have had that red herring be more present in the storyline too. Ah well. I do enjoy Bundle and Battle (those are characters). I just wish I enjoyed the resolution.
