The characters felt heavily stereotyped, and I couldn’t identify with any of them. Without convincing characters and character development, there’s very little left story-wise to “sink your teeth” into. There’s a crazy big shark eating people. The end.
Truly a contender for the worst book i’ve read this year.
Incredibly racist and so much talk about rape. I had to skim through an entire conversation of a woman having an affair and talking about her rape fantasy over dinner.
This book was boring and hardly about the shark, you guys.
Spielberg really did a service to this absolute buffoon of an author and thankfully, when he was done with it, the film was nearly unrecognizable from it’s origins.
Who fucking orders egg salad and a glass of milk at a diner

I think this is one of the very rare instances where I actually enjoyed the movie more than the book. Perhaps that's because Jaws is one of my favorite movies, but for whatever reason the plot of the movie was just much more satisfying to me.
I really didn't like the characters all that much either, so I think that also put me off. On it's own merit, it was a pretty good book, but it just didn't do much for me.

The Good
Anything with the shark
Suspense
The results of people's actions/corruption
The Bad
The characters
The whole middle section of the book
The ending
Overall
Hard to recommend to most people because the middle of the book just takes such a strange turn. Everything with the shark is excellent. Honestly, I would just watch the movie.
