 “An ejaculation of hopelessness”
What a fucking line.

Of course I’m comparing this all to the movie that 7 year old me watched at a friend's house when I was far too young. The first kill was arguably more horrifying because you get to hear the inner dialogue of the woman being attacked and her realizing she’s being attacked. The remainder of the book is a bit slow for my liking.

Loveable characters: No

disappointed at the affair and the lack of a bloodbath on july 4th esp since they kept referring to it

The movie messed me up as a kid, so I was eager to jump into the book and its Shark Week, so perfect timing. And like the film, you barely see the shark. It's just lingering on the periphery while most of the book is about class struggles, midlife crises, and an adulterous relationship, so special thanks to Spielberg for streamlining this. I was expecting more time on the boat with Brody, Hooper, and Quint, this threesome made the movie so I was just expecting more of them in the book. It abruptly ended and I was left wanting more.

3.5*
The shark attack scenes were amazing and so well done but the domestic drama I could’ve done without.

Brody and Quint are cool, but everyone else sucks and the shark just shows up occasionally. Boo. The movie's better.
