I hate to say it, but don't start here.

The only reason I gave 3 stars instead of 2 is because of the author. I adore her stories. I adore her characters. But from the start I struggled with this book.
I can't say that I liked any of the characters, and I found each of them to be lacking in their own way. I've come to expect a strong female in Sorensens stories. Kat is not up to par in my opinion. A read a few reviews prior to downloading, and one comment did warn about Kat being so hard to embrace that they couldn't get past chapter 7. They weren't lying!
I'm a quirky, awkward person, but Kat had me cringing at times! The age difference, the internal dialogue, the chemistry...it just wasn't there for me. I'm sympathetic to the why and the how of Kat, even Dylan, but it still didn't work.
I did finish this book, and plan to go on with the series, but man I hope the others in this series perk up, because this just wasn't a good read for me at all.
If this is your first Sorensen book, maybe set it aside and go for one of her other series or stand-alones! She is fantastic, and this book does not do her justice.

You know what I love? Taking a chance on a new author and realizing you've just found a sparkling diamond in the middle of a rocky dessert. This was my first Karla Sorensen book and I am HOOKED. I'm already begging for the next books in this series - and just for the record, dibs on Tristan! :P But seriously, this book guys... THIS BOOK. Okay, let me try to wrangle my words here.

First of all, I have to talk about the writing. Holy cats with sweaters on Karla Sorensen can WRITE, y'all. I was immediately sucked in, immediately rooting for both characters, immediately picturing the life they were living. Sorensen paints such a beautiful picture of Colorado but not only that, she illustrates her characters so vividly that I swear I can STILL see them when I close my eyes. I mean, Dylan? HOLY HOTNESS. And Kat? Well, let's just say she's pretty much the most adorable heroine I've ever read. Loved them both hard!

Now, I knew going into this book that it was "low" on the heat factor - meaning there wasn't going to be descriptive sex scenes. But you know what? I DIDN'T CARE. I honestly didn't. The angst, the pull between the two of them, how hilarious they were, their adorable moments of honesty - THAT was what made this book so amazing to read. And you know what? The steam didn't disappoint me - it really didn't. In fact, I felt like it was PERFECT for this book.

What I loved most about Dylan is that Sorensen perfectly set up what is sure to be one of my favorite series. I'm already jonesing for everyone's stories (especially Tristan) and I can't wait to get back with the crew. So, write faster, Sorensen! I'm ready! <3

Dylan was a laugh-out-loud romance that had me smiling from the first page to the very last sentence. Five give-me-more stars!

Beautiful

I loved this sweet, heartfelt, lovingly book. It was an easy read for me, meaning it was so easy for me to instantly fall into the pages and become hooked. I finished it in one sitting. The characters are so great and you feel like you have known them forever. Can't wait to read book two.

I… really didn’t like this. Age gap is something that I’m starting to not cringe at because age gap tropes work for me when the younger character isn’t painfully naive and ignorant. And while I know Kat has a lot of problems and a lot of trust issues, I mean. She was aggressively mean and rude and straight up nasty to Dylan. And I didn’t understand where the fun Kat was at the beginning of their friendship. When they “got together” she all but disappeared. I didn’t understand why Dylan stayed with her other than his “white knight syndrome.” I don’t understand how in one breath she’d say she trusts Dylan and then in the next not trust him? I dunno. I don’t think I’m going to continue with the series but I will continue with this author because the other books I’ve read are super good.

When his life feels like it has been at a stand still and with a new job on the Dylan moves away from his family and starts a new job a few states away. Kat is used to relying on no one and being a child in the foster system growing up has left her not really understanding or being comfortable with family dynamics and friendship. So when a spark is felt the two embark on a friends with benefits relationship. Unfortunately when that grows to so much more, Kat backs away and ends things. Can Dylan win her back and have her understand he is in this for the long haul? Or will the feelings of being left behind be the only thing Kat can rely on? With emotions that run deeper than the page they are written on this was a great read. I cannot wait for the next bachelor to get his HEA.

Karla Sorensen has a magical way of writing the most PERFECT book boyfriends. There isn't a male character of hers that I haven't fallen for and swooned over. Karla does swoon AMAZINGLY.

DYLAN was everything I knew it would be and more. There's nothing like finding an author that you have complete confidence in, an author that you know will weave a beautiful tale of romance, make you cry a little, and make you laugh a lot. Karla is my go-to author for feel good romance with substance.

The novel begins with Dylan stuck at the same old job, living the same old life. He feels like he's stuck in a rut, and when he's offered a job opportunity in Colorado, he takes it. There he meets Kat, and his furry sidekick Leonidas that completely wooed me (seriously, not only does Karla write perfect fictional men, but she also writes perfect fictional dogs!! If Leonidas was a real dog, I'd be in trouble because I'd bring him home lol).

Kat was an amazing leading lady. She felt real and raw, and I really felt a kinship with her. Not because I've experienced the same things as her, but I understand the anxiety she felt to a degree so I could sympathize with her.

So, to summarize; I loved this book, gave it 5 stars because it deserves those 5 stars, and would recommend this novel and all of Karla's other books to anybody who wanted to fall in love with fictional characters. ;)

I recently started reading through Karla Sorensen books after reading 'Focused' and enjoying it. However, I was so bored reading Dylan that I gave up at 50%.

I personally couldn't get into the story line and really didn't care about the characters. I'll continue reading Karla's books as I've enjoyed 4/5 but this one just wanted for me.

While Dylan is a very likable character, the h is a bit too neurotic to make this story very enjoyable.

Another surprising 5 star read!!!!!!  DYLAN THE TRUE LOML OMG. He is so swoony and dreamy and wonderful. He starts off the book being a bit of a workaholic (I will overlook this) but leave his hometown to basically start something new. He meets Kat, but he's curious about her. I love this about him because he's not all "she wasn't wearing makeup, had that natural beauty" sort of crap that I hate to read when they have dual POV. He like actually sees her as a person and wants to understand why she is the way she is. Kat has gone through so much in her life and when she described some of her anxieties with people, I really understood her. And Dylan is so patient and really tries to make her feel safe. When she said she trusts him >>>>>>>> omgggg. What made me love Dylan even more was when he realized that Kat was going to freak out about their arrangement😏, he immediately went over to talk things out with her and reassure her. Even when they have the obligatory fight 3 quarters of the way through the book, it was a moment of high intensity, but he was still respectful and kind and realized she was acting out because of her trauma. And the way he kept pining for her after that??? Literally chills flooded my body. And Kat, my awkward love. I honestly wish I could be her friend. I'm so glad she has someone like Dylan who wasn't ready to give up on them even when she felt like she didn't deserve someone to love her like that.  Honestly, I didn't expect to like, let alone love, this book once the "friends with benefits" shoe dropped. I audibly groaned and closed the kindle app for a second once I finished the chapter that declared this hit-or-miss trope. But I love Kat and Dylan so much. Karla, you've done it again!!!!!
