“Female fireflies draw in strange males with dishonest signals and eat them; mantis females devour their own mates. Female insects, Kya thought, know how to deal with their lovers.”

Found this a bit slow to start but oh my what a beautiful book. I loved it. The language they used and the descriptions felt like I was right there I got immersed in the story.

I decided I was going to buy this, then thought no it’s not my vibe. After being like no Taylor Swift loves this book just give it a go so I bought it. I started reading it and was struggling with it. I did not like it whatsoever, then as I kept reading I found myself routing for Kya and I found myself being a little more invested. I wasn’t entirely sold and I pre-decided that I would rate it 3 stars before I even finished it, I don’t know why. Anyway, I found myself trying to put two and two together with the murder of chase and find out exactly what happened. I felt so bad for Kya throughout the ENTIRE book. Girl does not catch a break at all. I found the relationship with Tate sooo sweet and the relationship with Chase I did not buy at all I kept suspecting something was going to go wrong. Jumpin’ and Mabel where the best characters imo. I found comfort in their motives and acts of kindness. It wasn’t until the final 100 pages when I decided this was 4 stars for me. The trial has me turning pages constantly, it was very suspenseful and the last poem twist made me gasp. So, yes at times I was struggling, but it was a good read I can’t deny it.
