Even once the very sad mystery was revealed, I did not want to let go of these characters.
A really well-constructed book. It was delightful to wander through different time periods and people's lives that centered around events at a 400+ year old house.
I don’t know if the book meant to be... and maybe it’s because it’s October and I started this book on a weekend when I was home alone, but the book is definitely eerie. Maybe I would’ve known better, had I actually read the description of the book, but I purchased it because it was recommended and then forgot it was in my library until this past weekend. Which is actually kind of ironic given the storyline.
But I actually really really liked this book. It’s written so well and it’s so... haunted? I loved all the different timelines and how it was so well woven together. I’m really starting to appreciate Kate Morton’s style and have already started another one of her books.

3 stars for beautiful writing, which was really the only thing I enjoyed about this book. It felt like the story was kind of all over the place, like it was 3 different books squished up into one and not in a good way.

Geweldig boek. Het zit allemaal zo vernuftig in elkaar. Het verhaal speelt zich in meerdere periodes af tussen 2017 en 1862 met als 'hoofdpersoon', Birchwood Manor, een landhuis aan de oever van de Theems in Oxfordshire en de geest die daar in 1862 aan het eind van de zomer is komen wonen. Een derde belangrijk element is ook een zeer kostbare edelsteen, de Radcliffe Blue.
Alles wat er die zomer gebeurt heeft uiteraard invloed op de tijden daarna. Ik denk dat ik het boek binnenkort nog een keer ga lezen omdat ik denk dat ik dan, met voorkennis over de afloop, meer in het verhaal zal zien dat ik nu over het hoofd heb gezien. Een 9, maar hier een 8.

3.5 ⭐️. Really fascinating story, with great quotes! Some loose ends with lack of detail to wrap things up. Slow at several points
Not a bad books, but because of its lengthy work, it tended to wane on for me. It was also cumbersome to follow the jumping timelines and retain the story details. Heartbreaking in the end though, for knowing a secret about Lily pretty much ended the happy ending for Lucy and Edward.
