This one wasn’t for me. It’s not a bad book, just not MY book. I couldn’t really connect to the characters, story, or writing style. And the ending was kind of lackluster for me.
Amazing! Now one of my favorites and will definitely be reading more by Kate Morton. I cried out of sadness and joy. The author unfolded the story beautifully.
Not as good as The Lake House, but still a lovely atmospheric read.
I borrowed this as an audiobook off the back of listening to the Lake House and so had high expectations. Although the story was interesting, I found myself feeling a little unfulfilled by the ending of this book - it was just not quite as original as I'd hoped and I guessed the twists fairly early on. It seemed that Kate Morton was trying to recreate the formula that she used so effectively in the Lake House (and possibly her earlier books, which I have not read), of multiple timelines, perspectives and interlinked modern and historical plots. Unfortunately, I did not feel particularly invested in Elodie, the modern character, and felt she was rather underdeveloped. Too much time was spent in the past, and introducing more than one historical voice meant that none were as fully formed as I would like.

Well, I had better hopes for this story. The story sounded so interesting and worth reading.
This story was very slow to start and stayed that way throughout the story, there were LOTS of characters and so much in the back story of each person that you seem to drown in information and the time frame skips around so you really, and I mean really pay attention to what year it is.
It seems to have about 200 extra pages that you could really live without.
