First of all : there are a few minor spoilers below, so read at your own risk!

Here's how the story starts:

A girl and her best friend go to a secret party on a remote island hosted by the ex-best friend of the POV's best friend, who is no longer her best friend because she is now best friend with the POV. On the island, they discover that the guy the POV's best friend has a crush on is also there, and it turns out that the POV is also in love with him but hasn't told her best friend because... well, she's her best friend! There is also the guy's best friend, whom the POV's best friend dated to get closer to her crush (obviously). This guy is now dating the friend of the host's best friend, and finally there's the guy currently dating the host (who doesn't seem to be anybody best friend, poor guy :/ ). Then there is a bunch of flat and cliché characters (the Know-It-All Girl, the Dumb-Racist-Homophobic Guy, tec...) who are just there to get killed.

The host of the party isn't here, and it doesn't seem to disturb anyone (except the POV because she is so smart, even though she went to a remote island party with a bunch of people she doesn't know with her lunatic best friend, who treats her more like a dog than a human).

You got my point : the characters are bad. Like really, really bad. And they are so stupid that I actually believed they wanted to get killed ("Hey, wait here in the middle of night, all alone, while I go get whatever it is I forgot" / "hey let's split up while we're searching the house!" / "hey, I found out who the killer is but I'm not gonna tell you now because there are dead people around and I don't wanna talk about their killer in front of them, so let's wait until we get out to reveal what readers already figured out 20 chapters ago!")

On the other hand, I can't argue the fact that the story moves at a high pace, and I read it very quickly (that's why I picked it in the first place).

I could have rated it 2 stars, because it was quite fun to read since I laughed at all the decisions the characters made, but I think the average rate is far too high.

To all of you who were actually scared by the book and the ending, I would really like to know what you thought was so scary? (And I say this in a respectfull way)

To conclude : if you're looking for a fast-paced book where stupid teens make stupid decisions that get them killed, this is a book for you.

3.5 stars!

Look this was engaging and fun and interesting like you’d want any YA murder mystery to be, but there’s also something about it that left me a little off.

I read it all in one sitting, because I simply didn’t want to stop reading. I felt it was definitely too predictable and the twist too cliche, but still enjoyable and engaging nonetheless.

I wish there had been more time to get to know the characters and be able to distinguish them properly. Also wish some of the language used wasn’t to ableist or didn’t portray mental illness as a burden on everyone.

I was super hesitant to read this one because “and then there were none“ is one of my favorite books of all time. It was definitely a book that did not need a “retelling“. It definitely does not compare at all. Instead it is another cheap YA thriller. It isn’t the worst book I’ve ever read, but compared to and then there were none, it’s pretty bad. Even so, I could recommend it to those who haven’t read a Christie’s masterpiece, they won’t be terribly disappointed. Review to come.

I wen through a huge Agatha Christie phase (at one time I was part of a book club, I got a ton of her books in fancy leather covers...). I was hesitant to read this, based on some of the reviews I had seen, but when the e-book was on sale I decided to give it a try.

It was...OK. It was a very quick read, in part because I started to skim some of the really overblown angsty teenage stuff.

I thought the update to the original story was interesting, but at the same time, a teenager did all of that elaborate planning? Really?

It wasn't terrible, it just wasn't great.

8/10. while there were a lot of reviews complaining about the repetitive nature of this storyline, i’m a sucker for a good murder mystery where people are killed off one by one. i enjoyed the twists, suspense, and trying to figure out what the heck was going on. the end actually did catch me off guard. i thought up a lot of different scenarios, but that was not one of them. the only thing i disliked was the very end, like literally the last three pages. so many people were dead, they literally just burned a guy who killed nine people, but they did not seem as panicked or traumatized as any normal person would be. how are they about to just sit in front of a burning boat and kiss, or “the one beautiful thing to come out of this terrible night was that it brought me to him”. like bestie what. other than that i really liked this book, such a quick read too!

I enjoyed Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, so Ten was recommended to me as a readalike. Ten was a quick, suspenseful, and action-packed read that kept me on the edge of my seat. It explored themes of revenge, friendship, and loyalty. I didn’t really connect with the main character, but that’s probably because this novel is more plot-driven than character-driven. Nowadays I tend to prefer character-driven stories, but back when I was a teen I’m sure I would have LOVED this book. I was really into Fear Street and Nightmare Hall books and watched a ton of horror movies with my friends (Scream was my favorite!). If you’re a fan of mystery and horror, give this one a try.

Superb! Read it practically in one setting and enjoyed it as much as the R.L. Stine's I read in high school. Great, fun read.

Pretty classic thriller/slasher in the best and worst sense, in that you know who the characters are and what they stand for. There is other stuff going on here that I definitely want to blog soon.

this was on my tbr for over 10 years and i'm positive that 2013 me would've loved this

It was terrifying and mysterious, but it was so good!
