Quick YA, stranded on an island murder scenario.

This book was alright - I really didn’t care about any of the characters, but the plot was pretty good.

Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! OH MY GOSH!
This has been one of the creepiest and most amazing books I have read in ages. I have always loved a horror, mystery book. It had me staying up all night and looking inside my wardrobe just waiting for someone to jump out... creepy is an understatement!

The cover is simple but extremely effective, it gave such a uninhabited and secluded vibe as if they were all by themselves and in ways, they were. Its so dark and mysterious it instantly jumped out at me and I could not wait to read it. But to get the full affect you must read at night, it is truly horrifyingly terrifying.

It begins with a group of teenagers who get invited by the most 'popular girl ever', whom of which you would never turn down a party invitation from even if it is on a secluded island, all by themselves. Okay, sounds harmless enough, however we are instantly pushed into a whirlwind of storms and disappearances of which would instantly send you running... yet they can't. To pass the time they watch a home-made video (lets just say, I will never watch one again). As murders become apparent to be more then an accident or suicide, the teens begin to turn on each other in a mass of accusations, pain and destruction. As ten becomes nine, to eight, to seven, to six, to five... you get the point, they begin to panic and would go against anyone, even the ones they love.

Meg was our protagonist, not the most popular teen in the world she is known for running the school newspaper and being best friends with Minnie. However she is a very likeable character, she cares and always looks out for those around her ESPECIALLY for Minnie (I HOPE YOUR READING THIS MINNIE!) She is also quick to put her brain into action, to figure out the murders and piece the clues together. Then we have Minnie, lets just say she over-reacts a lot. Also, always controlling Meg is one thing but to then throw it in her face like a piece of rubbish... not cool, not cool at all. Meg is constantly changing her decisions and circling her life around Minnie to not upset her and is purposefully moving miles away from her, just to make a new life for herself. We then have T.J., to be honest, I didn't really know what to think of him. He was a great character and you could easily see how much he cared for Meg, he was also very calm when dealing with the murders, he was constantly trying to help solve the mystery and working his-socks-off to mainly get them off the island as quick and safely as possible. However, there was just something that made you contemplate as to whether he was involved with the murders or not...

The plot was amazingly engaging and I felt myself wanting more and more, it instantly pulled me in and as soon as I put the book down, my mind was turning over and over all information received to figure out the murderer and the array of messages (especially through school, that was a big struggle to keep my brain on physics instead of the puzzles in the book). The ending was also brilliant, such tension and suspense it had me on the edge of my chair as if I was going to run and help.

This book is full of horror, suspense and of course, mystery! It will keep your mind ticking and make you feel as if you have a time limit to read the book. It had a mass of secret passages and background stories to keep you going back to square one, and of course... you can trust no-one.

I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it.

Ten was OK. After reading the summary I thought this sounded really interesting, however, it didn't meet my expectations. I did enjoy the mystery throughout this book, and I was honestly surprised by the plot twist. But the characters were a bit flat and boring for me and would have liked to have seen more depth. Despite that, it was an OK read and if you want a quick, light read then I suggest you read this.

Ok that was quick. This book is a really quick read for anyone with some time ahead. It's not thrilling or riveting you can't really put it off but I kept intrigued at how the author would manage to introduce the Agatha Christie plot in there.
Yes, this book pays homage to "And Then There Were None". I read it a long time ago and don't recall all the details but I did remember who the killer was and I kept waiting for some clue that pointed in that direction.
The story also pays homage to the campy teen horror movies of the last decades and if you've seen a few, you'll see all the cliches in there. It can be, and it can be bad. Teens tend to love these cliches. Adults (who have read a bit more, and seen a few more films) might get annoyed. Luckily I feel neither so I wasn't awed but it didn't annoy me.
The characters on the other hand did bother me a bit. Yes, I know they are supposed to die soon, so why bother to flesh them out? But that first scene in the kitchen, was difficult to tell one girl from the other and keep the names right.
The main character didn't bother me as much as other comments, yes, she commits mistakes, but she's a teen, she's scared and she is seeing awful things. She is allowed to commit them. She isn't the brightest (I would have loved a Veronica Mars going over the killer there) but she is ok. Her relationship with Minnie was another story. I know she is supposed to be the supporting friend but I am not sure how it helps someone with real mental issues to have someone agree with you at everything you say because you will keep being even more delusional.
Anyway, if you are a teen and love campy horror movies this is your book. If you loved Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" and are up for a retelling go for it (taking into account it's for teens, the people populating the books are teens and their stories and dramas are very teenagey). But if you are expecting a full fleshed horror turn away because you will be disappointed.

2.5/5

This book was a trip. I know it was about a bunch of teenagers, but I felt like it was written by a teenager as well. And like all the high school drama.. the backstabbing and boyfriend stealing and romance, kinda just seems dumb in the face of people literally being murdered.

The characters were pretty shallow (they were high schoolers) and kinda dumb. So I couldn’t really connect with any of them.

The idea was cool though. A play off Christi’s And Then There Were None. And I did not guess the true killer at all (although I had a couple close guesses). I read it pretty quickly and appreciated the ways that you were mislead to suspecting the wrong people.

This book was very boring in my opinion. I wanted a fun YA twist on And Then There Were None, but what I got was a boring copy. More could have been done with this, but it wasn't.

As Eleanor Shellstrop would say: "Ya Basic."

This was a great read. I did not expect to like this book as much as I did, but the concept really intrigued me. The story was about a house party on a secluded island where teens who came to have fun are being killed off by a killer. I thought the story was creepy, and intriguing. The murders were actually really interesting. The characters were murdered based on the crime that they committed. It freaked me out a bit because it reminded me of Final Destination. I did find some of the characters annoying, but that is the only thing that I did not like about the story. The ending was great. I can't wait to read more books by Gretchen McNeil. She made me a fan with this book. Overall, an intriguing read.
