There's good things about this novel. S.A. Cosby has a strong writing style, and in this novel it's rich with the voice of Southern Black culture. This story was set in a very small town, and Cosby was dedicated to highlighting the dynamics within it. And the premise was intriguing.

But I fear Cosby took everything good about this novel and fumbled. For one, he did the small town thing too much. The racist southern small town became Racist Southern Small Town™; it was so generic, and that bled into the characters, and honestly the entire plot. A never-ending revolving door of useless names/characters, the many, many corny lines (and overall corny vibe, I'm sorry), the many side plots I didn't care about, the way the actual killer story line DRAGGED and ended very lackluster despite all the buildup...

I had more complaints than compliments by not even halfway through the book, and by the end I was just plain annoyed. Not a bad book (I feel like I always say that about my 2.5 star reads), but I was not pleased.

Could not finish. Lots of triggers.
