I listened to this before reading James by Percival Everett so I could have context. I probably would have gotten more out of it if I had read with my eyes because I honestly only half-listened and therefore was quite a bit confused. The narrator was excellent, though.

Lots of problems with this book, which were easy to see now that I’m older. Fascinating to see so clearly how a book can be both abolitionist and also racist.
But still so much greatness as well—humor, adventure, and an unparalleled ability to take a kid’s perspective.
