It was well-written and all that, I suppose, but the part where, out of anger at someone else (a character who had the audacity not to want to fish), the narrator's brother Paul chased and kicked a sex worker was too misogynistic for me. It became more so when the narrator confessed, "Suddenly, I developed a passion to kick a woman in the ass."

Suddenly, I developed a passion not to read anything more by Norman Maclean.

Lyrical, soulful, certainly an underlying meaning that lifts the spirits as a trout lifts from the stream...I'm so bored. This just isn't the book for me at this time, at this age. Or maybe I just can't appreciate it, as I'm a baited-hook kinda gal.
