this is your typical YA romance, and maybe because i went into this with high expectations especially as i remember having a great time with the love hypothesis, i was a bit let down. the entire time, the book was leading us to anticipate this one scene, and just when the readers feel like they’re nearing the cusp of it, the book ends. i also feel as if the relationship of the two characters could have been developed more through actions rather than their dialogue (which held most of their relationship’s development it seemed). they still had bomb chemistry imo, it’s just that it was lacking.

however, i actually don’t agree with the criticisms mallory received about being so centered in providing and being guilt-ridden throughout the whole book. it was a very real portrayal of someone bearing all the guilt and shame, because guilt, most of the time, stays buried in someone for what feels like an indefinite period of time. reading mallory’s narrations throughout the book was reminiscent of some of my own memories, which makes me think was something the book did a really good job at.
