Take a photo of a barcode or cover
This was my first ever Diary of a Wimpy Kid book & I totally see the appeal for kids. It's ridiculous, funny, & has lots of bathroom humor, so of course kids would love it. I'm reading it with 2 of my most reluctant readers & we're finishing it in 3 days!
adventurous
funny
tense
medium-paced
Loveable characters:
No
I was disappointed in this latest one. All the others have had me laughing and smiling and this one just wasn't all that great.
funny
Yes yes yes! Most of this book is very funny! And the movie as well.
Silly ol Greg, and the Beardos really give me the nervous sweats
This is the ninth book about Greg Heffley (the Wimpy Kid) of the title. Greg is looking forward to a long summer doing nothing but watching TV and playing video games. Unfortunately for Greg, his mother has other ideas. She thinks a road trip would be a good idea, she read about it in a magazine, and imagines it would be conducive to family bonding.
Mom doesn’t even let poor Greg and Rodrick take any electronics on the trip. The trip isn’t as much fun as Mom anticipates, the accommodation on the road is substandard to say the least. Greg has enough problems relating to his brothers Manny and Rodrick, when he has a whole house to escape in, but in the confines of a family car, there is no escape.
If you are familiar with the series, it is the same format, the notebook style font interspersed with simple cartoon pictures. There is a lot of humour, though some of it is quite juvenile. One of my favourite sequences is when dad tries to take an important phone call from work and wants the car’s occupants to be quiet. He should know better than to use a phone while driving, especially with his barely functional family.
