I’m wavering between 3.5 and 4 stars for this one, so I’m rounding up to 4 for this review. My first impression: I really liked how the plot line interconnects with Yours For The Taking. I wasn’t sure how much it would intertwine, but was pleasantly surprised. Having said this, there were parts of the plot that fell flat for me. Particularly, I wish the early parts of Orchid’s mom’s story were replaced with more description about her work with the “climate deniers.” I also found myself wishing for a cameo from Olympia (Yours For The Taking) — I really loved the complexity of her character in Yours. Here’s to hoping Korn creates another novel set in this dystopian world.

More refined than its predecessor, but still plagued with didactic writing. That being said, the ideas being presented are interesting to think about, and Korn does an excellent job inviting you to consider them.

Thanks to NetGalley, St.Martin’s Press and Macmillan Audio for the advanced copy!

My first book of 2024 was Yours for the Taking and I knew it was going to be a good reading year! Then, I learned this book was coming out and was really excited for a companion novel to one I already loved and this lived up to my expectations and then some - I flew though this book in less than 24 hours. Both novels fall into a perfect niche for me with a well built, captivating dystopian landscape and so many interesting characters - many of whom are queer.

While I believe this can function as a stand alone novel, I heavily recommend first picking up Yours for the Taking so that you have even richer background knowledge about the world this story takes place in, and more appreciation and excitement for the connections our characters have between each other (within both novels and across them)!

Already craving more queer dystopian reads (as per usual)!!

Remarkably prescient given that this book must have been written a few years ago.  I didn't realize that this could be the second book in a series.  I may reread it after reading the first one, but I was able to follow along and it made sense even though I did not read the first book.
