"Those People" was my second book by author Louise Candlish, and though I didn't enjoy is as much as "Our House" I did think it was a fun, quick little thriller.

Thanks to Netgalley and Berkley Publishing Group for allowing me an e-copy to read and give my honest review.

Interesting tale of what happens to a peaceful neighborhood when a loud, rude couple move in and begin demolition / renovation on their home. They also begin to run a used car business from their home. The original neighbors constantly ask the new couple to make concessions, but the new couple does things their way. The once peaceful neighborhood now has all the neighbors at odds with each other, and many of the neighbors are at wit's end as to what to do with the problem house at the end of the block.
When tragedy strikes, everyone blames the new neighbors, but nothing is as it seems on the surface. As with Louise Candlish's first novel, Our House, the ending will leave you with a bit of a gut punch.
I felt that this book was slightly confusing with all the characters and their various stories, but it was enjoyable. However, I didn't like it as much as Our House. I also found it difficult to like many of the characters in the book.
Thanks to Edelweiss.plus for a free copy in exchange for an honest review of the book.

This book was slow burning, Unlikeable characters, flat out boring. I think this will be my last book by this author. I felt the same about her last novel, thought I’d go ahead and give another chance.
I listened to this one thinking that would help... it didn’t.

Most of the reviews here say that this isn't as good as [b:Our House|35924499|Our House|Louise Candlish|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1511275498l/35924499._SY75_.jpg|57458464], but I thought it was much better! I think [b:The Sudden Departure of the Frasers|24640590|The Sudden Departure of the Frasers|Louise Candlish|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1427214879l/24640590._SY75_.jpg|43193042] is Louise Candlish's best book, but this was still an enjoyable read.

The story centres on a couple who inherit a house in a well to do London suburb and immediately get offside with all of their neighbours. They tear down a heritage wall, start noisy renovations, park numerous cars in the street and play loud music at all hours. The neighbours are furious. They try complaining to the Council and Police, but budget cuts to both of those groups mean that there is little interest from Authorities in their complaints. The book has a Liane Moriarty type structure - from the outset we know that there has been "an incident" in the street and that the Police are investigating. Eventually we learn that someone has died and the rest of the book is about working out who was responsible as suspicion shifts from one household to another.

Most of the negative reviews mention that the characters are all unlikeable (which is true) and that the pace is slow (perhaps? - I never lost interest). I was entertained by the satirical take on neighbour wars which I could almost imagine taking place in my own suburb. I did work out the primary culprit quite early on but there were still enough twists that I didn't lose interest. And the ending, which makes it clear that things are not as resolved as everyone hopes, made me smile. Meh. Not my fave.
