I never thought about quitting the book, so it was gripping enough and I wanted to know where it was going. But it was a very-slow burn, with no great spikes of excitement or heart-racing moments, which makes me think it shouldn't even be called a thriller. To add to that, most of the characters were very unlikable, with the exception of maybe Tess and Sissy, even though they were hardly angels themselves. And the end felt entirely flat. It wasn't a success, sorry.
Candlish’s latest suspenseful thriller is sure to keep readers turning pages late into the night. Set on the outskirts of London, England the residents of Lowland Way believe they have the best homes and neighbors. Yet, the perfectly homogeneous community is disrupted when new owners, who don’t fit the mold, join the block. The murderous mosaic of suburbanite characters could make the reader wonder how quickly one’s own neighbors might turn to violence. This fiendishly twisty tale of secrets, lies, jealousy, and intrigue keeps readers guessing until the very end. The multiple perspectives create a tapestry that weaves together the intricately plotted yet fast-paced storyline. The most compelling element of the novel is that it is transferable; readers can easily envision similar situations in their own neighborhoods around the globe. Fans of Celeste Ng and Leila Slimani will be pleased with this new contemporary story about families and violence.
Trying to get all my 2019 reads recorded! RTC! Great book!
DNF@ 25%. No one is likable and they are all annoying in their own ways. Gonna pass on this one :)
I honestly don’t know what to make of this. The positives were that it was a good story with strong characters and did keep me on my toes for the most part. The reason I gave it 3 stars was because there are books I’ve enjoyed more that I give 4 stars to. The main disappointment for me was the ending, I literally turned the page for the next chapter and it was the acknowledgements page and I genuinely thought I’d missed a chapter because it didn’t feel like the end of the book.
Excellent!!!
We've all had "those" neighbours. The ones who play loud music at all hours, don't care about the folks around them, and basically drive us crazy. How far would you go to be rid of them?

I personally did not find this one as exciting as I thought I would. It was one of those books that I had to force myself to finish just to say I’d finished it
2.5
Dragged a bit and had a lot of alternating perspectives of privileged, gossiping neighbors. It was OK, I put it down for a month before forcing myself to finish it. It was just kind of boring.
