"I don't know, really. I do it every night. I suppose you could say it helps reveal our Maker? What the Lord has given us, day by day. It adds meaning, I think." This was who her brother was: someone who kept notes on flowers, faithful to the world, sure of purpose. To her, observations did not render meaning. She knew better. Experience told her only actions made meaning.”
The History of Sound has a very unique writing style described as “A BB CC DD EE FF A” with the second couplet completing the first meaning each of these short stories was followed by a completion of the first half. The first half of these short stories I really enjoyed, I felt that the stories were interwoven yet the second half felt disconnected. My favorite story was of Hope, who gave up her son to her brother and sister in law to afford her child a better life while she attempted to make something of herself not anticipating they would cut ties. The second story depicts her desperation to find her child at an art exhibit she was attending with her husband. She killed for him in every facet of her new life. You felt her longing for him and true regret for giving up their life together. Overall a good pick and look forward to the discussions we’ll have at book club.

A beautiful set of short stories. I enjoyed the concept of pairing related stories together from different perspectives in time. Highly enjoyable and well written.
