As a known hater of a short story collection who just keeps trying it, I’m glad to say: I loved this one!!
The epigraph introduction to hook-and-chain poems (and the structure of this collection) was the perfect setup and the story pairings were all interesting and the perfect callback my ex-AP brain needed to Document Based Questions - especially those dealing with continuity and change over time.
Although I’m sure this one will gain popularity as Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor bring the first of the stories to life later this year, it does make me a bit sad to think the rest won’t get to see some adaption because there are some really unique settings and plots here.
Would be great to pack along if you’ve got a Nantucket or Northeastern US summer coming up, or just in general for a unique set of stories set there in pairs that make it easy to chunk up the book and complete in a few sittings
