SO GOOD!!!! I enjoyed this book way more than the first one, which is saying something because I am a sucker for origin stories. That twist with the imposter Black Night was so well planned and I just didn’t want to put this book down. The best book I’ve read in the last few months.

WOWOWOWOW! This is probably one of the top contenders for one of my favourite books this year and it's only January! This was an action-packed, emotional, yet intriguing read. I loved it; I loved it, and I loved it so much!

What I Liked!

✓ The love triangle was amazing yet somehow heartbreaking to me. It wasn't obvious or put in for the sake of having one, but it showed how each love interest held a different path for Alice, and what she wanted in her life. It was great.

✓ The adventures and action throughout the story. It was described well and really heightened the emotion around the story.

✓ Alice's character arc, and her getting more bold, but also afraid throughout the story. She had real growth throughout this story and became more vulnerable.

✓ Haruka was an amazing addition to the crew! She's my new favourite!

✓ The worldbuilding and expansiveness of Wonderland.

What I Disliked.

✕ I didn't actually dislike any part of the story. Sometimes the pacing was off, but mostly, it was a well-written story.

Overall, a great story that had amazing character development, stellar worldbuilding, and kept me on the edge of my seat with the action and plot!

Read this book if you like: Alice in Wonderland, Black girls with magic, magic worlds parallel to our own, and diverse fairytale retellings.

The climax moved me to actual tears
Fun, and engaging. Certainly wish I had fantasy book like this to read when I was growing up

This was a good second installment in the series. I like that the ending wrapped things up nicely but left it open for more.
I appreciate the diversity in this fantasy novel. Its always nice to see that kind of representation in one my favorite genres.

A really strong sequel to A Blade So Black. Alice is really coming into her power and her process of doing that was incredibly powerful. I still want to know exactly what Addison did to get exiled though!

The world of this series is really cool and most of the time I enjoy the plot. But I don't really click with these characters that feel flat or annoying. It's a case of a great idea, but the execution doesn't work well for me. I may or may not read the third (and I think final?) book when that comes out just to complete the trilogy. This has such promise and I think it will work for some YA readers.

This is the second book in the Nightmare-Verse and this story is still just as fun. This book didn't seem to fall victim to the Middle Book Syndrome. There was still a lot of action in this one and a lot of plot developments that weren't just filler. I love all the representation in this book and the different relationships that develop. Can't wait for the third book!

This was SO much fun. The pacing was incredible and the imagery was so creative. I couldn't stop reading. All the same feelings I had for the first book were supported throughout this book too. Loved it!
