Ok so Charlie is a bit immature but he's only in his mid to early 20's so that's understandable. This had some sweet moments and of course, some hot sex scenes and some dirty talk as this is a Tessa Bailey book ;) I really enjoyed the book, both characters had growth that was really needed and their chemistry undeniable.

Als ich gehört habe, dass hier Polizisten vorkommen war ich soooo gehyped. Naja. Meine Erwartungen wurden nicht so ganz erfüllt

First, these older book covers do no favors to the books. Second, this wasn't my favorite Tessa, but of course, I'm going to read the next two.

This book was hard for me to get into at first. I don’t know if it was because of me or the story. (Sometimes I think I’m in the mood for romance but then I’m not). It also felt fairly predictable from the very first chapter. Not that most romance novels aren’t predictable because it’s not like most of us read romance for mystery lol. I think the first impression I got was the MCs were going to be flat boring people. And at first they were but that ultimately fit into the plot of the story.

As the story progressed the characters grew beyond one dimensional and started to become deeper, more emotional, more complex characters. I think they were surprised by this because of their individual codes of no entanglements. Once FMC decided she wanted a serious relationship it was painful to watch MMC become so desperate and not even recognize that in himself.

These were two people who had been hurt by the adults in their lives and had never had the opportunity to heal. And didn’t even recognize what healing was or meant. It took them finding one another to be able to start taking those steps.

There were a lot of cringey moments in the story especially when MMC became super toxic because ultimately he was violating her consent and that’s really fucked up. Then there was the awkwardness they each had in their family unit and that was excruciating. But ultimately they worked through things, although a bit too conveniently in some instances. The final conflict where everything was revealed felt pretty petty at that point. It would’ve been more impactful had it been revealed prior to the exchange of love or if it was revealed and met with anger but not to the level that it was. Although I do see how it moved the story to the big romantic moment.

Overall it is a fun, somewhat emotional read in spite of the slow to hook start and cringey moments in between. If you love typical romance tropes with an eventual happy ending then this is a book for you.

Sigh this was just not for me… I could not buy into any of it and I found it very childish and cringe at times.

I tried to read it from a perspective of they’re incredibly young, but even that was giving too much credit to a really problematic MMC and a FMC who was so wishy washy and defines her whole life by the standards of others. I’m well aware these things happen, but neither character seemed to have any growth for me.

Didn’t love the pet name “cutie” - maybe it’s just pet names, idk. Also, kinda hated the deception. Something about this missed me. I finished and it was okay, but I wouldn’t read it again.
