I never read these when I was younger, I started hard and fast into Mythology and Horror and have only recently begun to read fantasy stories. So I figured, why not start with some of the basics (Lord of the Rings, The Ranger’s Apprentice and A Song of Ice and Fire are also amidst this list, so you see I really mean, the basics) namely, one of the most revered childhood tales of fantasy. I watched the movie as a kid, since it came out when I was only 11, and I loved it of course. It was fun and intriguing but also appropriate for that age. So, now being 24 years old, I was nervous about reading a children’s or young classic. I will admit, some parts became a little tedious but overall I was genuinely pleased with this first installment and look forward to reading the rest. It was as expected, young, but it was also fun. A lot happens, I assume to keep the reader intrigued, but there’s also a lot about the actual narration I found to be extremely appealing. The characters were straightforward, not a lot of depth, but the story itself was interesting and foreboding. I genuinely enjoyed it more than I planned for and although I do feel as if it would have had a greater impact on my reading structure if it had been read in my youth, I still found it fun and can understand why this is a must read for those who read fantasy and I think it’s lighthearted vibe, even in times of turmoil, and fast pace are great attributes in a book for new readers.

Fun trip down nostalgia lane

Definitely a nostalgia read, but plenty of charming moments and cool world-building. But not as exciting of a story as the rest of the installments in the series.
