This book was so emotional and beautiful. A.L. Jackson never disappoints! Whenever I start a book she’s written, I have to mentally prepare myself for the emotional roller coaster I’m about to ride. Follow Me Back was no exception pulling me in deep right of the start with the prologue.

Kale and Hope find each other when they least expected it. They both have pasts that have left them broken and afraid of relationships. The pain both of them are in was tangible. I wanted to constantly reach through the pages, tell them everything was going to be okay, and give them hugs. No matter how broken they both are, they constantly give every bit of themselves to everyone else around them. So much so, that they forget to take care of themselves. I loved every second of their relationship and watching them overcome their pasts to have a beautiful future.

The twists that this book took had me holding my breath and my heart racing. I didn’t see them coming and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out what happened. Some of these twists made me sad and my eyes well up but others made me smile and fall deeper in love with these characters.

It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for good supporting characters. This book is full of them; both good and evil. I’m going to avoid spoilers but there is another boy in this story that has my heart besides Kale.

After going through every emotion possible, this book will leave you with a renewed sense of love, family, and most of all HOPE.

Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.

AL Jackson's writing style is just not it. It's so distracting and ridiculous I can't even focus on the plot (whatever little that may be).

Everyone speaks as if they're in a slam poetry contest. The heroine bursts into tears, chokes up, and trembles ALL the time. The hero's recites poetic lines when they shag and reads whole stories behind every single glance the heroine gives him he should be a mindreader. AL Jackson sprinkles one-line paragraphs and one-word lines like parsley. Kale, the hero (yes, KALE) thinks in haikus and alliterative blurbs. Oh the way he tests my patience. Hope has many inventive ways to describe her heart clenching, tightening and shattering t00. Makes me wonder why I would ever need to read a thesaurus when I can just pick up an AL Jackson book.

The plot's nothing inventive and I'm okay with that. But this story takes itself WAY too seriously for me to even want to laugh at how ridiculous everyone acted and spoke. Everyone's emotions are screaming, and wanting to fist their hearts and crush their ribs.

No more for me, thank you.

Cue the waterworks..

Be prepared to be full of emotions with this story. You know it’s a good read when you feel everything the characters are experiencing. The pain, the angst, the tenderness, the joy. The story or Hope and Kale will make you realize real love exists and as long as you push through and fight for it, it truly can be yours no matter the circumstances. I can’t wait to read more from one of my new favorite authors.

Beautiful

A slow building, beautiful love story that brought tears to my eyes. This author always nails it with emotionally engaging romances! I can’t wait for the next release.

Kale Bryant has sworn off love and relationships and he's been doing a pretty good job of sticking to that. One-night stands and short-term flings are his MO and he doesn't really plan for anything to be different when he sets his eyes on Harley Masterson, but things don't often go to plan do they? Things are made even more complicated when she walks into his exam room with her son, one of his new patients.

Harley doesn't have time for relationships, all of her focus has got to be on her son, especially while fighting to keep custody of him from her soon to be ex-husband. But Kale gives her something she hasn't had in a really long time. And the way he cares for her son is hard to ignore. But she's in the fight of her life and she will do whatever she has to in order to keep her son safe. Kale will have to decide if they are worth fighting for himself. But it sure would be nice to have someone to lean on occasionally.

After meeting Kale in the first book of this series I was super intrigued to see where his story would go, and this book did not disappoint. He's definitely a complicated character and I didn't love some of the decisions he made in the book, but I also understood them. And in the end, his character growth was exactly what I wanted/needed from the story. The way he cared for both Harley and Evan was just great, and the way he always wanted to try for Evan was just perfect.

Harley was great female lead with a lot of strength to be dealing with everything she had going on. I love the way she loved her son and I love that she let herself accept that sometimes she needed to let go and just live a little. I like that she was able to find a piece of herself again thanks to opening up to Kale, but I also like that nothing she did was dependent on him. This was a great book, with great characters, and I'm very excited to read the next one in the series.

I would recommend this one to anyone who enjoys the following.

✔️ Single Mom
✔️ Found Family Vibes
✔️ Mystery/Suspense
✔️ Small Town
✔️ First Person Dual POV

Kale Bryant is an ER doctor. He's married to his job and he's fine with his occasional hookups. He's learned that love can destroy you and he won't be taking that risk again. Until Hope Masterson walks into his friend Ollie's bar and it's like he's been struck by lightning. And whaddaya know, she won't give the heartthrob doc the time of day. That's new...
Hope is in the middle of a nasty divorce and she's facing the biggest battle of her life: she needs to keep full custody of her son Evan and she can't afford to get involved with anyone. Evan was born with a serious congenital heart malformation, has gone through a transplant as an infant and he can't hear at all. His father couldn't care less about the boy but he's become a pawn in his fight with Hope.
When their worlds collide and Kale becomes Evan's doctor, things will get immensely complicated because Kale has fallen hard not only for the mom but also for the little boy.
Brace yourself for a beautiful story that will break your heart. Kale falls completely for Hope AND Evan and it's so sweet and beautiful! Hope's ex-husband is the scum of the earth. The things he says about his son will make you want to get inside the book and unalive him yourself. But Amy brings it all together with the added twists we've come to expect from her (I didn't guess this one!!!)
In this book, we are also witnesses to the budding romance between Evan and Frankie Leigh and it's just adorable!
Amazing, heartbreaking read!
Narration: Narrated by the fan favorite Joe Arden and the amazing Andi Arndt.
Possible triggers and rep: Evan has a congenital heart malformation and can't hear at all. Sick child, near fatal medical emergencies involving a child, toxic relationship with a spouse and a parent, extremely ableist language used by a secondary character in relation to disabilities

There are not enough words to describe the feelings I had while reading this book. I smiled, laughed, cried and at times felt my heart being shredded. I can honestly say that I LOVE all of Amy's books but this read was by far her best and my most favorite to date. Be prepared to have your heart ripped apart piece by piece and slowly pieced together for one phenomenal, heart-wrenching, breathtaking beautiful story of sacrifice and love. This book is an absolute must read and a definite top read of 2018.
