This book was much more firmly memoir than his previous. He does not shy away from the bad parts. The eating disorder and the assault in particular were pretty grim reading. He also doesn’t try to paint himself in very flattering light. Like any other memoir, there isn’t a perfectly planned plot neatly tied up at the end, but it does follow some structure of his life post medicine with flashbacks, with it then left on a somewhat more hopeful note.
I had primarily chosen to read it as someone not 100% happy in medicine, and there weren’t any firm answers (can there be?) but it was food for thought.

Adam Kay‘s writing style is the same as in his other book. The swearing, the same sass and wit.

This book though doesn‘t describe his life during his time as a doctor but his struggle afterwards, with some important flashbacks. Some might not like it, but I did. Down to all the gory details (it‘s those details people liked in his other books so why not now?)

The way he describes his struggle with ED, PTSD and SA…when he finally breaks down at the GP‘s office! All with his typical Adam-humour.

I loved this book and will recommend it to all my friends who loved the other books and the tv-show!
