"although Ghost had thought of God many times before, this time he imagined him as a man"
Eriiiic what happened? I genuinely don't have anything good to say about this like I have no idea what this plot was supposed to, it just felt like words on a page

Honestly, I was super excited about the idea of ritual magic being featured in a story but we didn’t really get to see that. It ended up being very graphic and just plain weird. The story itself was an interesting premise but can we stop demonizing those who practice ritual magic? Not everyone wants to take over the world.
I did enjoy the queer representation though!!! I was confused about the dual story lines but it all woven together by the end. It seemed like a convenient way to use a queer story but it was done nicely and it was two males (one who is a police officer) so it touched on a lot of things in regards to masculinity and queerness.
Interesting book with some weird stuff going on!

This book has a pervasive sense of dread and was a fast read. The writing style felt a little clumsy and unclear, but it may have been a stylistic choice. There’s some incredibly graphic violence in here (and a trigger warning for anti-LGBTQ violence, in particular). I liked the overall message it was going for, but the resolution was somewhat baffling and ultimately it didn’t succeed for me.
i should have stopped reading when the disabled child was described as monstrous and her mother trying to “save” her from her blindness was framed as a heroic act. ugh.

I really enjoyed yet another Eric LaRocca. Overall, I rated this book 3.5 stars out of 5. This is very different than Eric LaRocca's other novellas and short stories, so I think that's why many people haven't been jiving with this book. I think this book was meant to represent some form of spiritual belief and skepticism. I knew going into this book that there was a religious element to it and I think that helped me in my 3.5 rating. If I wasn't aware of the it, it would have been a lower rating. It's also not traditional horror like LaRocca's other works.
