Another work from this author that I just don't seem to get
challenging dark mysterious fast-paced

This was not horror.
This was a book split into two plots. Ghost's was somewhat intriguing initially but once the characters were fleshed out it was a total eye-roll-inducing snooze fest. Malik's was literally pointless because--spoilers--it all gets erased at the end. One could argue that maybe the author was going for an allegory on the queer experience, but because of how they chose to end the story Malik is robbed of all character development and we as readers are forced to sit here, as I am now, wondering "what was the point?"
At least it was short.

It hurts to rate this book so poorly. I have loved some of LaRocca’s other work and I think he’s a very competent horror writer, but this was so bad.

Book was... Not good. I was interested in the premise, but the writing style was rough. Also, very graphic descriptions of sexual assault.

It's like a low 1, because I felt compelled to finish it, but at the same time, I probably should have bailed earlier on.
