I don’t typically enjoy books about people finding their way back to each other. I don’t believe in revisiting past relationships, especially from high school or younger, but this book made me believe in what individual growth can bring to a past relationship.

I was halfway thru this when someone told me it’s basically copy/paste of Love & Other Words by Christina Lauren, which I own but haven’t read yet. So I will hold my thoughts and review until after I read that one

Edited to add: I’ve now read love and other words and can confirm it’s dangerously close in a lot of aspects. That being said, tropes are tropes for a reason and there aren’t very many wholly unique ideas in the genre. I will say that I like the bulk of this story better than love & other words, it’s just done better. But the ending here was not good, and it leaves you feeling like one of the characters deserves better and the twist ending is just a little too icky. This could’ve been 4-4.5 if not for the finale, in my opinion.

Every Summer After was a fun story with a very rushed ending and a
relationship that possibly didn't need to happen
. The time jumps were well paced, the supporting characters were fun and likeable but I am definitely on Team
They Should Have Gone Their Separate Ways
.

Sam should have been allowed to explore studying and dating in university without guilt or without it being some drunken reaction to him and Percy's situationship. Likewise, Percy should have tried dating other people properly (not hang onto city bf while wanting Sam) or just not dating at all until she could resolve those feelings.

Also, a DORM PHONE?

This book was good but interesting to say the least, I couldn’t stop laughing and the scene
when Sam gave Percy a “anatomy lesson” there was lack of tone and when he would say “ankle” or “shin” it would sound very monotone in my head and I don’t know if it was my general lack of maturity or if everyone else thought this
I also thought the dialogue was a bit messy at times I sometimes found myself rushing to get to the end also fair warning there is a bit of smut that I wasn’t expecting.

This is your classic second-chance romance. I enjoyed reading it, but found the writing very formulaic and predictable at times. I feel like I've read many versions of this story before.

Carly Fortune read “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and fixed everything that sucked. And it only took one book instead of three.
Solid writing, wonderful book boyfriend, and delightfully spicy.
